- רָכַןII (preced.) to bend. Hif. הִרְכִּין 1) to bend (act. a. neut. verb); to yield. B. Bath.V, 8, a. e. הִרְכִּינָהּוכ׳, v. מָצָה. Num. R. s. 147> הוא לאה׳ צוארו לעבירהוכ׳ he (Joseph) bent not his neck (did not yield) to temptation, therefore a golden chain was put on his neck; Tanḥ. Bresh. 12 צואר שלאה׳וכ׳ the neck which did not bend ; Lev. R. s. 23 שלא הִרִכִּינוֹ which he did not bend. Num. R. s. 107> והִרְכַּנְתִּי את ראשי I bent my head (nodding approval); Y.Ned.I, 36d bot. והרכנתיו בראשי (read והרכנתי); Sifré Num. 22 (not גלחתי); (Tosef.Naz.IV, 7, חֵימַכְתִּי). Y.Ter.I, 40b top ה׳ בראשו if he nodded consent; ib. עד שיַרְכִּיןוכ׳ until he nods three times. Gitt. VII, 1; a. e. 2) to sink, be faint. Gen. R. s. 65 (ref. to Gen. 27:22) בשעה שיעקב מַרְכִּין בקולווכ׳ when Jacob is faint with his voice (in prayer), Esaus hands have power over him, opp. מצפצף.
